3.4 Susceptibility to intergranular cracking. The material shall not be
susceptible to intergranular cracking (see 4.3.6).
3.5 Duplex grain structure. Duplex grain structure is not permitted in barstock with a diameter of 3� inches or less. Duplex grain structure is defined as any structure in which the average grain sizes for the two grain size specimens, prepared in accordance with 4.3.5, differ by more than 5 ASTM grain size numbers. The uniformity of grain size shall be determined for bar and rod as specified in 4.3.5. Plate, sheet, strip, and wire shall be excluded from this requirement.
3.6 Recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
