in length parallel to the length of the sample so that it touches the edge being tested and extends an equal distance on both sides of the point of apparent maximum deviation. Measure with a steel scale graduated to 1/100 of an inch the perpendicular distance from the straight edge to the edge
of the test sample at the point of maximum deviation from straightness.
4.4.3 Preparation for shipment. Examination of the packaging and packing, and marking for shipment shall be made for conformance with the requirement of section 5.
4.5 Tests.
4.5.1 Tension test specimens.
4.5.1.1 Bar 1/2 inch or less in distance between parallel faces. Bar
1/2 inch or less in distance between parallel faces shall be tested in
full size using a free length between the jaws of the testing machine.
4.5.1.2 Bar over 1/2 inch in distance between parallel faces. Test specimens shall be in accordance with method ASTM E 8.
4.5.1.3 Flat wire (ribbon) 1/8 inch thick and over. Specimens shall be in accordance with method ASTM E 8. They shall be machined to size by milling only.
4.5.1.4 Flat wire (ribbon) under 1/8 inch thick. The specimen shall consist of a free length of stock in width received, having square parallel edges free from burrs without machining or stoning.
4.5.2 Hardness test specimens.
4.5.2.1 Strip. Test specimens shall be in accordance with either ASTM E 18 or E 92, whichever is applicable (see 6.3).
4.5.3 Test procedures.
